About volcanic agate
A quartz variety of chalcedony and agate. It features banded intense mossy or plumed patterns. It forms within gas bubbles or vesicles of volcanic rock and lava that's cooled or cooling. Trace amounts of iron, magnese, or calcite create the distinct color bands.
Volcanic agates popular green glow is caused by trapped atomic uranium. Don't worry it's only trace amounts measured in parts per million. It's perfectly safe. When uv light hits the stone it excites the electrons trapped within the uranium, usually giving off a beautiful green glow.
